Are there any companies developing hybrid or electric conversion options for combustion gasoline automobiles?

I am the type of person that loves their cars and keeps them forever. Some of the current aternative fuel cars are nice and attractive, but I would rather somehow modify mine. Any news out there on converstion kits?

Note that you can buy a converted Electric Car for as little as $5000! And a car like this can be really cheap to drive - as little as a penny per mile.

Now, once you have an electric car, it's very easy to make it into a hybrid. Buy a portable generator from your local hardware store. If your batteries run low, and there's nowhere to plug in, plug into the generator. Start the generator and charge the batteries.
