Electric Vehicle Demand

Hold off on buying a new Gas Car in 2010 ?
Trending Telsa motors, Ford (Focus EV), GM (Volt) and Nissan (Leaf) will rollout their 100% Electric Vehicles "EVs" by 2012.
I was thinking of buying a new 100% gas car, but:
1) Is it safe buy a new gas car now considering 100% EVs will be rolling out soon?
2) Will gas prices fall dramatically as demand falls relative to growth in hybrids or EVs?

Government funding initiatives are already under way in UK to subsidize the conversion of gas stations to charging stations!

Most likely the US will switch to alcohol powered cars within the next 5 years, in which case your new gas powered car will be able to be reprogrammed to 100% alcohol...
100% evs wont work in the US until they can be recharged in 15 minutes, or have a driving range of 1000 miles...
Americans traveling will cover 500 miles in a single day, and then have use for the vehicle after that...
they won't have the option of sitting somewhere for 8-12 hours while the car recharges...
Public transit for downtime isn't an option in most of the US...

Electric Vehicle Battery $81.25 An electric vehicle battery (EVB) is a rechargeable battery used in electric vehicles, making them battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Batteries are usually the most expensive component of BEVs, although batteries from old or wrecked electric cars can be bought for batterytogrid minipower plants. The cost of battery manufacture is substantial, but increasing returns to scale may serve to lower their cost when BEVs are manufactured on the scale of modern internal combustion vehicles. Since the late 1990s, advances in battery technologies have been driven by skyrocketing demand for laptop computers and mobile phones, with consumer demand for more features, larger, brighter displays, and longer battery time driving research and development in the field. The BEV marketplace has reaped the benefits of these advances. History of the Electric Vehicle $125.85 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The history of the electric vehicle began in the mid19th century. An electrical vehicle held the vehicular land speed record until around 1900. The high cost, low top speed and short range of electric vehicles, compared to later internal combustion vehicles, led to a worldwide decline in their use. At the beginning of the 21st Century, interest in electrical and other alternative fuel vehicles has increased due to growing concern over the problems associated with hydrocarbon fueled vehicles, including damage to the environment caused by their emissions, and the sustainability of the current hydrocarbonbased transportation infrastructure. Neighborhood Electric Vehicle $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Lowspeed vehicle is a federallyapproved streetlegal vehicle classification which came into existence in 1998 under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (FMVSS 500). There is nothing in the federal regulations specifically pertaining to the powertrain. Lowspeed vehicles are defined as a fourwheeled motor vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 3,000 pounds (1,400 kg) and a top speed of between 20 to 25 mph (32 to 40 km/h). Those states that authorize NEVs generally restrict their operation to streets with a maximum speed limit of 35 or 45 mph (56 or 72 km/h). Because of federal law, car dealers cannot legally sell the vehicles to go faster than 25 mph (40 km/h), but the buyer can easily modify the car to go 35 mph (56 km/h). However, if modified to exceed 25 mph (40 km/h), the vehicle then becomes subject to safety requirements of passenger cars. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Modeling and Design of an Electric AllTerrain Vehicle $105.14 This book describes and evaluates the conversion of a conventional gasoline powered allterrain vehicle (ATV) to an electric ATV. Preliminary studies are performed to obtain initial power and torque requirements for the vehicle. A detailed simulation model of the mechanical load is written and compared to manufacturer supplied data. The load model is then combined with a comprehensive electronic drive and motor simulation using an electromagnetic transient simulation program (PSCAD). A prototype of the vehicle is constructed by selecting the main components, an electric traction motor, batteries and a custom motor drive, using the simulation results. The results of both the simulation and prototypes are compared and evaluated. Tribrid Vehicle $101.96 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Tribrids are the third generation of alternative propulsion vehicles. Second generation are the bivalent hybrid vehicles with turbines. Tribrids are hybrids that obtain additional energy from the ambient environment (solar panel, windmill or sail). An example is a velomobile with an electric powerassist motor and additional onboard solar cells. Under this definition, 2010 Toyota Prius hybrids equipped with an optional solar panel are tribrids. Partial ZeroEmissions Vehicle $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle is a vehicle that has zero evaporative emissions from its fuel system, has a 15 year (or at least 150,000 mile) warranty and meets SULEV tailpipe emission standards.PZEVs have their own administrative category within the state of California for low emission vehicles. This vehicle category was created as part of a bargain with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), so that the automobile manufacturers could postpone producing mandated zero emission vehicles (ZEVs), which will require the production of electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Diver Propulsion Vehicle $92.4 A diver propulsion vehicle (DPV, also known as an underwater propulsion vehicle or underwater scooter) is an item of diving equipment used by scuba and rebreather divers to increase range underwater. Range is restricted by the amount of breathing gas that can be carried, the rate at which that breathing gas is consumed under exertion, and the time limits imposed by the dive tables to avoid decompression sickness. A DPV usually consists of a batterypowered electric motor, which drives a propeller. The design must ensure that: the propeller is caged so that it cannot harm the diver, diving equipment or marine life Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 132 Publication Date: 2010/07/26 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.30 inches |
