Will GM ever make the "Volt". The first mass produced Electric Car with a backup on-board gasoline engine?

GM has been advertising the Eco-friendly, Electric Vehicle for years now, but it seems to be put off. Even the Camaro was supposedly going to be a 2008 model and now it's pushed back to 2010.
If someone does know some inside info on the volt, any idea how fast it will go once the batteries have run out?

They are advertising a 2010 release but the reality is they haven't reached their goals for the battery yet. There is hope, but they wasted a lot of time going after fuel cell technology instead of hybrid. For some reason the auto makers seem to think the consumer wants more than they can provide. Almost everyone who had the EV1 wanted to keep it, and the electric Rav 4 is selling for more than it did when it was new. I'm afraid if gas prices stay low the Volt will fade to the background and never materialize.
