2000 Ford Contour O/D light flashing?

Hello; I recently purchased a 2000 Ford Contour with only 32,000 miles on it, one owner. It is a gem (confirmed by my mechanic). I was driving tonight and my O/D light started flashing, steadily for approximately 10 miles until I got home and turned off the car. I noticed no difference in driving or shifting, drives great. I looked in the owner's manual, it says it means there's a problem with the transaxle. What could possibly be wrong with it? Of course I'll take it to my mechanic to look at, but any idea? Thanks

If it did not come back, it could just be a loose plug / harness / whatever.

Check fluid levels, esp. transmission fluid. It's a pain to get to if you got a V6, and I think they are all V6's in 2000. Do it when the engine is WARM, remember.

If it doesn't come back, it's probably just a glitch.

EDIT: the tranny fluid dipstick is, well, it's a little hard to explain. Get the engine bay open, and you stand at the headlights, facing the driver's position. It'd be next to the wiper, and you'll have to look down between bundles of wires and you'll see a yellow and black handle. That's your tranny dipstick. Really. As I said, it's a pain to get to.
