Which year is considered to be Mitsubishi;s best quality Montero between 1988-1996?

I'm shopping for a Montero to take on a road trip. I only have $3000 to spend so I will be looking up to $3500 cash.

I need this vehicle to be very dependable for 2500 miles. Montero seems to be the best of the older asian suvs for that time peroid for reliability, room and cheap parts.

Is there a particular year that stood out as one of the best overall years.

I'm looking for the best Montero I can find for my small budget, I' have a mechanic that will check the car out once I figure which one to buy. I'm just wondering if there is a gem of a year for the older Monteros. Thank YOu

Getting the second generation (1991-2000) Montero is always the better choice. Its a later model so it's an upgrade compared to the first generation. More comfort features and better technology. You'll be getting more milage out of it too.
