Tesla Car Electric
Tesla Roadster electirc sports car.?
The Tesla Roadster sports car is all electric and will go about 250 miles on a charge, its my understanding. So my question is...If Hybrid Cars (gas/electric) can have a system that charges the batteries during braking, why don't they produce the Tesla Roadster with the same type of system as the Hybrid autos? Wouldn't it stand to reason that you could extend the distance travled from 250miles to practicaly infitive? With maybe just a refresher charge required once in a great while? Maybe some kid of system that generates a trickle charge to the batteries as the wheels turn? Maybe even some sort of capacitor that is charged by the turn of the wheels as it expends the charge to the batteries? Just some thoughts. Of course something like this would realy hurt OPEC.....let e'm hurt there hurting the heck out of us right now.
The Tesla Roadster DOES have this system, it is called regenerative braking, and it is built right into the motor itself. With that system it is still 250 miles, it would not be practically infinite because you loose efficiency while transferring the power from the batteries to the motor and again from the motor to the battery when braking. You can not have a generator charge the battery while the car is moving because that would cause drag onto the motor.
If we as a nation start to buy All Electric Cars, it would hurt all oil companies and bring down the price of gas. Also think about it, the only maintenance that an Electric Car really needs is tires and brakes.
